Australia's Italian History; or 'Just What is an "Italian Warehouse" Anyway?'

In an earlier article I noted that the history of Italians in Australia extends back well beyond the post-WWII wave of immigration.

Here is an advertisement from The Sydney Morning Herald in1850 that offers us a glimpse of Australia's early Italian history:

Advertising. (1850, June 13). The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954), p. 3. Retrieved March 19, 2015, from http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article12918673

In what way was the warehouse Italian? Other than the fact that it sold ham, I have no idea! If you have any suggestions, please let me know!
